About
I am a political scientist and Research Director at the Institute of International Relations Prague. My research examines European integration and EU governance, political parties and elections, politicisation, migration, and political communication, with particular attention to Central and Eastern Europe. A recurring theme in my work is how European and other politically contested issues interact with domestic political competition and are represented in political and media discourse. My research draws primarily on quantitative methods, complemented by qualitative approaches to political discourse and framing. I also teach European politics and international relations at the University of New York in Prague.
Research
European Integration and EU Governance
I examine how the European Union is governed and how its institutional arrangements evolve, with particular interests in EU decision making, institutional reform, differentiated integration, and relations between national and European levels of governance.
Parties, Elections and Politicisation
I study how European integration enters domestic political competition, how political actors contest European issues, and why particular aspects of EU politics become politically salient.
Migration, Framing and Political Communication
I examine how migration itself, as well as migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees, are framed, communicated, and politicised in political and media discourse.
